I love a French phrase, so I’m snagging this tee by Joie (regularly $138). Oui, oui – indeed! This laid-back, comfy linen tee is the perfect layering piece with a blazer and destroyed boyfriend denim, or with shorts and sandals.

Happy shopping!

Spend or Splurge?

These will put a definite  SPRING in your step…

I’ve said before that a nude pump is an essential part of a well-considered wardrobe, but I’m adding this Spring’s hot sandal – the open-toed bootie – to the list as well. Yes, it elongates the leg just like its more subdued sister, but it adds a touch of undeniable sizzle that makes a basic black pencil skirt or even denim and a tee look fresh and edgy.

I’ll take either of these: The “Lexington” by Rachel Roy, originally $325/now $199, in natural leather with a 4″ heel or ZARA’s Leather High Heel Ankle Boot sandal with scalloped detailing, $129.99. The intricate cutouts adorning both shoes add visual interest and keep these booties from reading “Little House on the Prairie.” At such a great price there’s really no “spend or splurge” debate; you should get the Rachel Roy’s in black and the Zara pair in natural!

With a shoes that make such a bold statement, it’s best to keep the rest of your ensemble simple, and the neutral shade means you’ll get a lot of mileage out of them this season. And it should go without saying that a recent pedicure would also be essential.

I wear an 8, if anyone’s feeling generous! *wink*

Happy shopping!

Chick Stole My Look: Ashlee Simpson

20130326-083313.jpgWhile I was off maxing and relaxing, Ashlee Simpson showed up at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, NC in the same dress I rocked at the Macy’s Prom Event! Does she read this blog??? And did she also hijack my pose? The only difference in dresses is she removed one layer of the skirt.

Okay, okay…maybe the fact that her sister designed the Spring-ready “Extollook had something to do with it. This flouncy, flirty look with abstract print, cap sleeves and button placket back is fit for a variety of occasions and physiques. But just for fun, (and because I love E!’s Fashion Police feature): who rocked it best? Vote below!

SCDD has Spring Fever

While many flocked to Highway 280 to the Birmingham Fashion Week kick-off party at Gus Mayer yesterday evening, chic Homewood boutique DOREE hosted an intimate sneak peek at its Spring 2012 offerings.  It was hard to focus on fashion when cheese straws and petit fours beckoned! But on to the task!

Longer days and uncommonly warm temperatures lead me to believe spring is in the air, no matter what Punxsutawney Phil observed last week.  Standout items by Seduce Clothing feature airy fabrics and organic embellishments of metal or rope and are a welcome relief from winter hats, coats and mittens.   There is a white chiffon maxi dress that has my name all over it!

What will we see this spring?  “A lot of bright colors,” says manager Meredith Carter.  “Pinks, oranges and reds worn together are definitely worth a try.”  The one shoulder fuchsia overlay blouse with bright orange lining and long fluttery sleeve byAnalili ($160) would be perfect with dark denim and a killer pair of stilettoes.

Spring fashion will also blow a kiss to the 1970s, and the rose gold blouson sequined Laundry by Shelli Segal cocktail dress ($265) is a definite Studio 54-style showstopper.  Its mini length and split back are not for the faint of heart.

Don’t forget your accessories!  Meredith recommends you purchase a large, beaded necklace as a transitional piece, and we also spotted several Bakelite-style bracelets in black, the very “now” coral and turquoise with gold and stone overlay detailing for $25.  And there is a ivory mesh envelope clutch by Urban Expressions that I also intend to add to my collection (it also comes in pink and lavender).
