Join me for Girls’ Night Out at Belk/Riverchase!

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Are you ready for a Girls’ Night Out?  I know I am!  Join me at Belk/Riverchase Galleria on Thursday, October 8 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., where I will be sharing the best of fall fashion! We’ll be there to help you put together the perfect fall outfit, whether that’s styling a cape for date night, rocking a bootie to gameday or finding the perfect outfit for any other occasion this season!

Whether you’re looking to try fringe, plaid or just updating your look in terms of color or texture, we’ve got you covered! I’m trying something new: I’m loving Kiind Of’s dark floral “Irene” top with the “Sexy Skinny Jean” and  indigo rd.’s suede “Maddox” ankle bootie — and encourage you to embrace the unexpected this season. (The boots are so cute that someone offered to buy them off my feet last week!) Finish the look with Essie’s “Wicked” nail lacquer!

Swing by the soiree for light bites, music and 20% off with limited exclusions! Can’t make it to the Riverchase store? Girls’ Night Out will also be held at the Summit location!

See you there!

Darlings, shake off those winter blahs and spring forward into warm-weather fashion with Belk (and me!) on Thursday, March 12 at the Summit location! The garden party-themed soirée will feature light bites, wine and music from Scratch DJ, as well as fashion tips from yours truly. And yes: there will be discounts (20% off with limited exclusions) and giveaways!

The event is from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Belk (the Summit location). Swing by; I’d love to see (and shop) with you!

Check out a sneak peek at what I’m wearing: this lovely Ruffle-Top Slim Dress by 1 State’s Spring 2015 line (seen also in the slides how above). I was looking for an updated LBD and this is a winner! The flirty ruffle accent keeps it fun, but I don’t feel over-exposed thanks to the wide straps and knee-length hem. It can easily be dressed up or down, and I can’t wait to show you how I’ll style it this spring (hint: leopard may be involved). And 1 State has several other stylish, contemporary options on the second floor!

Not in the Birmingham area? Other Girls’ Night Out events are being held at Belk locations in Tuscaloosa, Spanish Fort and Mobile, AL (Bel-Air Mall), in Pensacola FL (Cordova Mall), and in Atlanta, GA (Phipps Plaza) and Franklin, TN (Cool Springs Galleria).

Hope to see you March 12!

XO, Alexis

Mark your calendars, darlings! The Riverchase Galleria will debut its new flagship Belk during a Grand Opening Celebration next Thursday. Join Belk for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 AM; the first 400 people will receive Belk Gift Cards worth $5-$500! And that’s not all: Belk will donate $65,000 to local charities in honor of its grand opening. As you evaluate your fall wardrobe, Belk has you covered with clothing and accessories which make modern, southern statements. What’s on its Fall Most Wanted List for Women? Here are some pieces that can help you update your look this season:

  • The Soft Pant – Easy elegance is a given with a bottom that will bring a big bang to any wardrobe; softly structured and often athletic inspired. Start with solids and work your way up to bold patterns. Fem is fresher than ever with a sporty attitude.
  • Longer Skirts – Go over the knee, mid-calf or all the way. These new lengths are fast becoming show stopping style staples.
  • The Creative Cardigan -This sweater is the season’s must have completer piece with fresh shapes, clever trims and interesting textures. Let the layering begin!
  • The Novelty Vest – Who Wore What When? Well who knows, but if she wore it with a vest–furry, fluffy, quilted or tailored–then the look was on its way to awesome. Try it! Pair it with a longer skirt for extra style points.
  • The Fashion Sweatshirt – On loan from the gym, this item has had more staying power than anyone could have predicted. Fabric blocking and luxe embellishments have elevated this top from “so so” to seriously chic.
  • The Tunic Top – No bells, no whistles. Go glam in a top that is pure perfection with its practical polish. High-low hems continue, while novelty fabrics feel so right.
  • The Midi Length Sheath – Take a look at a twist on a tried and true silhouette. This is the dress that turns a classic into a cause for celebration.
  • The Statement Neck – Logical or luxurious? Both! Bold stones, chain details and burnished metals. This jewelry item can update and refresh any old frock!
  • Over the Knee Boots – Strut your stuff in this fall fashion phenomenon. They feel modern and look so stylish. Worn with slim pants or skirt, it will most definitely deserve a selfie.
  • The Satchel – With its simple shape and subtle details, this classic bag captures an “of the moment” fashion vibe. Perfect to add a pop of color to any look.

Thank you to Belk for having me host the Lilly Pulitzer fashion show last Saturday! I am a huge fan of Lilly’s whimsical, distinctive prints and classic silhouettes (as well as the story behind the brand), and it was a treat to wear this Biltmore Maxi Dress ($298).

National Wear Your Lilly Day is June 21, which is the first day of summer! The line’s iconic resort wear and accessories are perfect for lounging by the pool or at the beach and can be worn by jazzy ladies of all ages!

Happy Friday, darlings!

Yesterday I told you one of Spring’s hautest looks will feature multicultural prints and influences. Today I’m happy to share a new label you should know: suakoko betty. This line is the brainchild of Charlene Dunbar, an Atlanta-area designer who marries traditional West African textiles with contemporary silhouettes (“suakoko” means “place of new beginnings” and to Dunbar, “Betty” represents the everyday woman).

Born in Liberia and reared in Atlanta, Charlene’s design sensibilities have been shaped by the strong, stylish women in her family as well as Liberian and American culture. Her work caught the eye of Belk when she entered (and won!) their Southern Design Showcase. Her thoughtfully conceived, artfully crafted pieces will launch in select Belk stores (yes, including Birmingham!) and online at belk.com this month.

When I saw the designs, I knew you would love them too, because suakoko betty embodies confident, bold women who express themselves through their personal style (if that’s not you, darlings, I don’t know who it is). The silhuoettes flatter a variety of physiques, and are so eye-catching that you’re sure to stand out when you enter a room. I can’t wait to get the Peplum with Skirt dress! What also makes this line special is Charlene travels to Africa herself to source and choose the fabric, but the pieces are made in the United States. You can shop the line ahead of the launch via the suakoko betty website and Etsy shop and at The Beehive Atlanta.

In anticipation and celebration of line’s launch at Belk, I am giving away a suakoko betty clutch, similar to the ones shown in the slideshow (which won’t be a part of the Belk collection). I have one, and it is a definite statement piece that I know will transform the simple palette I normally stick to.

There are SIX ways to enter:

The winner will be chosen on Monday, March 24 at 5 PM; stay tuned for my conversation with the designer herself next week!

Hello, Spring!

Get into it, darlings! I couldn’t wait another day for the seasons to change – and with it, my wardrobe! I wear a lot of seasonless pieces (which is easier on the budget), but I’m looking to breathe some new life into my look this year.

Pantone has already declared Radiant Orchid to be the color of the year, but there are numerous other options to play with this Spring, as shown here:

20140320-115125.jpg

I’ve already stepped out of my comfort zone by incorporating some rich blue into my life by way of J. Crew, as well as with Essie’s baby blue “Bikini So Teeny” nail polish. And I’m kinda loving it!

Now that we know which colors are haute this season, which trends should you be considering? I rely on Belk’s uber-glam style maven Arlene Goldstein’s trend reports, and this year we can look forward to what she deems “fierce, yet feminine looks with delicate and daring statements.” Her top three style statements this season are the

  • “Jetsetter”– featuring multi-cultural, ikat and camo prints and elements which speak to your spirit of adventure (perfect with the gladiator sandals and flats you’ll be wearing as well!),
  • “Feminine Charms” – exuding  elegance and marked by appliques, florals, lace, sheer fabrics and fit-and-flare silhouettes in white and navy, and
  • “Clean Slate” – for those of you who prefer minimalist chic, geometric elements, classic yet graphic black and white and edgy statement jewelry.

The only trend I’m not looking forward to? The return of the chunky-heeled shoe. Ugh. But there’s plenty to choose from, and these smoking-haute stilettos from Dolce Vita ($179.99) are on my lust-list.  And as if we needed another excuse to shop, Belk has a Spring Fashion Sale going on now!

Fall fashion at Belk is ‘seriously chic’

Even if we haven’t quite reached fall on the calendar, the crisp temps and arrival of pre-season football are putting many of us in the mood ahead of time. As you search for the perfect items to accomodate the cooler weather, Belk is ready with the top trends you need in your wardrobe this fall.

At Belk’s recent fall fashion preview, Arlene Goldstein (Vice President of Trend Marketing and Fashion Direction) suggested that shoppers embrace texture, pattern and the clever use of color in “entertaining pieces that will blend well in your wardrobe.” Before you grab something off the rack, consider whether it will add value to what you already own. “Fashion should liberate us, not fence us in,” according to Goldstein. “You can wake up every morning and be whoever you like.” (For more with Ms. Goldstein, click HERE.)

With that in mind, here are four key statements you may make this fall.

MODERN MINDSET: This is a sleek, architectural look with boxy shapes, juxtaposing the large against the small, and featuring “punk” influences like zippers and studs and dramatic optical or graphic patterns.

PAST PERFECT: Vintage, textile-driven pieces with more subtle effects. Neutral palettes, lace detailing, and embellishments are hallmarks of this look. And if you’ve grown bored with the platform soles we’ve seen for several seasons, single-sole pumps are back.

GLAM GLOBETROTTER: Pattern-mixing is key to this look, which includeds one of my favorites: animal print! Goldstein also notes, “Don’t limit shiny things to evening! Wear your glitz before six!” Tiptoe into this trend by trying a beaded or sequined top worn under a jacket; don’t wear a cocktail dress to work, darlings.

JUST DANDY: This “town and country” look features contemporary classics with a bit of a twist. Think plaid and houndstooth and military touches like brass buttons and epaulets. Flat boots and smoking slippers are part of this look.

One of the most exciting collaborations at Belk this fall is the new CYNTHIA Cynthia Rowley footwear line. The shoes feature details such as studs and ankle straps, which are on-trend for fall. Four different options are available online now, and each is a totally wearable, high-quality addition to your fall wardrobe. I tried to pick a favorite (I’m leaning toward the “City” pump), but honestly, they are all amazing and affordable (in the $90-110 price range). Check out the “Halo” pump, “River” flat, “Chelsea” bootie and “City” pump! Can’t decide between the various heel heights? Buy them all.

What we wore: Soirée at SoHo

20130717-065117.jpgI wanted to share two of the super chic looks worn at the recent Soiree at SoHo.  I had a lovely time, and the Role Model Runway was so fun (I managed not to trip or fall!).  It was a pleasure celebrating the work accomplished by the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama.

On Leslie Cooper: Calvin Klein crew neck roll sleeve blouse  in “Tempest Teal “and Michael Kors  printed skinny pant in turquoise and navy with Jessica Simpson  “Cosset” wedges in red.  What a chic and totally wearable way to mix patterns, prints and color!

On Alexis: Vince Camuto  twisted neckline maxi dress (similar, here).  I love the graphic chevron print as well as the slight pop of citrus yellow at the neckline. Perfect for cocktails or luncheons, it flatters a multitudes of silhouettes; it flatters the shoulders and neckline. We also added a matching yellow belt for an additional pop of color.  This airy chiffon dress was so comfortable that I just wanted to twirl all the way home in it!

Here’s a look at the fabulous fashions worn by all the Role Models this year ( the outfits were graciously provided by Belk).
