I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been affected in some form by cancer, either through personal diagnosis or supporting a loved one through their own. My family has lost several loved ones to cancer, and I was saddened to have a god-aunt pass away early last month.  It is an honor to share CureDiva’s mission and products with you, and I hope you’ll tune in to Talk of Alabama tomorrow morning.

Spend or Splurge?

These will put a definite  SPRING in your step…

I’ve said before that a nude pump is an essential part of a well-considered wardrobe, but I’m adding this Spring’s hot sandal – the open-toed bootie – to the list as well. Yes, it elongates the leg just like its more subdued sister, but it adds a touch of undeniable sizzle that makes a basic black pencil skirt or even denim and a tee look fresh and edgy.

I’ll take either of these: The “Lexington” by Rachel Roy, originally $325/now $199, in natural leather with a 4″ heel or ZARA’s Leather High Heel Ankle Boot sandal with scalloped detailing, $129.99. The intricate cutouts adorning both shoes add visual interest and keep these booties from reading “Little House on the Prairie.” At such a great price there’s really no “spend or splurge” debate; you should get the Rachel Roy’s in black and the Zara pair in natural!

With a shoes that make such a bold statement, it’s best to keep the rest of your ensemble simple, and the neutral shade means you’ll get a lot of mileage out of them this season. And it should go without saying that a recent pedicure would also be essential.

I wear an 8, if anyone’s feeling generous! *wink*

Preview: PETER PILOTTO for Target

Calling all Target shoppers!

Get ready for the launch of London design team Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos’  capsule collection PETER PILOTTO for Target, which hits stores February 9.  The collection includes separates, dresses, swimwear, shoes and accessories (including handbags and a beach towel). NET-A-PORTER will also carry selected items.

I’m loving the beautiful print details and classic lines, but have no plans to camp out at my local Target at 5 AM. I’ve learned the hard way that the quality of these items’ in terms of fabric and construction sometimes leaves much to be desired, so be aware of that if you plan to shop the collection.  Also, after pieces have left the shelves they may very well reappear in a Dirt Cheap near you…at a much lower price point than you paid in Target.   So I’ll take my time.

My favorite from the launch? The Jacquard Dress in Red Iris print ($79.99).

Road Tripping: Scottsboro’s Unclaimed Baggage Center

If you know me, you know I LIVE for fabulosity at a fraction of the price. I also love a road trip. So traveling to Scottsboro to spend a day treasure hunting at the Unclaimed Baggage Center (UBC) was right up my alley. I’d heard bits and pieces about this amazing place – where travelers’ unclaimed items wind up for sale – but there’s nothing like seeing it for yourself: it’s truly what Vogue has called a “fashion fool’s paradise.” Why?

For one thing, it’s HUGE: 40,000 square feet, to be exact. New and gently loved footwear (Christian Louboutin, anyone?), formalwear (one bargain-savvy bride outfitted herself and her bridesmaids at UBC) and casual clothing for the whole family, fine jewelry, sporting goods, electronics (I’m talking iPhones, iPads, and DSLR cameras, darlings) and more can be found within the space, at 30-80% off retail prices (you do the math). But you’re not scooping up dirty clothes or smartphones with someone else’s data. Items are thoroughly cleaned, tested and repaired (if necessary and possible) before they hit the shelves and racks. Offerings change frequently, and part of the fun in shopping is you never know exactly what you will find. What isn’t sold – or what doesn’t make it to the salesfloor at all – is repurposed or donated. The strangest item I saw (which is part of UBC’s permanent collection) was definitely the Hoggle, a huge muppet from the movie Labyrinth.

A few words of advice: if you snag something you love, buy it; leave it and it might not be there when you return! I am KICKING myself for not grabbing the Louis Vuitton clutch someone else snagged when I moved on to another rack. Also, wear comfortable shoes, and give yourself time to really dig into the racks. If you get tired, thirsty or need a snack, there’s comfortable seating where you can recharge, and the menu at the onsite Cups Cafe will give you a second wind.

The Unclaimed Baggage Center is located at 509 West Willow Street
, Scottsboro, Alabama. It’s open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm; UCB is closed on Sundays. You can also connect with UBC on Twitter and Facebook.

#Psalm 139:14

Love this shrunken graphic sweatshirt from *Madewell ($75)! This will be perfect with boyfriend shorts, leather bottoms and my go-to pencil skirts.  The shape keeps it from being too slouchy, and the simple phrase is oh-so-chic.  I love an item with a cheeky turn-of-phrase.

Have you checked out the new Madewell location at the Summit? They have AMAZING customer service and lovely city-chic pieces!  And they are currently offering 30% off online and in stores through December 24 (with some exclusions).

I love this piece for sartorial reasons, but also it reflects where I am right now with ALEXIS.  True beauty is about accepting your perceived flaws: your freckles, your stretch marks, your weird eyebrows, your jiggly thighs – whatever – and OWNING them.

*Bien fait means “Made well” in French.

Military: Ecru Military Coat by White House Black Market, $248

Cape: Colorblock Wool Cape by Banana Republic, $225

Trench: Michael Kors “Cassandra” Belted Trench in white at Zappos.com, $134

The Haute List: C. Wonder

20131127-114057.jpg

Have you checked out the new C. Wonder located at the Summit? Here are our top picks from the chic yet whimsical emporium:

Clothing: Because we love anything monogrammed, we chose the Intarsia Initial Crewneck sweater, available in six colors ($78). It’s perfect solo or with an oxford shirt layered underneath.

Jewelry: By now you also know we love blingtastic arm candy. So choosing this Pave Dome Studded cuff ($98) was a no-brainer.

Bags: Who couldn’t use a roomy but fashionable carry-all? This lightweight Nylon Easy Tote ($78) comes in six colors, has inside pockets and can be used as a diaper bag.

Shoes: Although we love our heels, and C. Wonder has some options in leopard and accented with glitter, treat your feet to a pair of Pebbled Leather Driving Mocs ($98), great with slacks, shorts and skirts.

Accessories: Baby, it’s cold outside! Keep those hands toasty with this pair of Tres Chic Cashmere Intarsia gloves ($58). And yes, you can still use your smartphone while wearing them!

Home & Decor: Gold accessories are a huge trend, so why not dress up your serving ware with it as well? These gold ikat Mini Appetizer Plates ($48), Dessert Plates ($48), and Coasters ($38) are perfect for serving your own guests, and would make snazzy hostess gifts as well. We’ll take this matching Tea for One set ($38), too!

Ready to shop? Sign up for email notifications and receive 20% off your purchase! The website is also currently offering free ground shipping on orders over $75 and shoppers can enjoy 30% off 3 or more items with code GIFTS30 (terms apply; inquire before attempting to use codes and discounts in-store).
