You Either Own a Pair…

…or you know someone who does.

If I see one more person in these earrings I’m going to scream….are we all shopping at the same Asian jewelry cart in the middle of the mall? And don’t side-eye me, because I know you’ve seen these larger-than-life hoop earrings with a million glittery balls strung through them.  Seeing them on a Basketball “Wife”,  a Real Housewife and a random person in Wal-Mart all in one night cured me of my desire to own a pair.  I like them – as I love all things sparkly except pink ice – but are these getting to be a bit overdone?

And I would be remiss if I failed to mention that NeNe Leakes is attempting to parlay her catchphrase into a tee shirt line.  Per Ms. Leakes’ Twitter feed yesterday, for $150 you too can wear her new money mantra and continue to line her pockets.   I would also be remiss if I failed to share a finer point of etiquette: it’s bad manners to run around proclaiming that you are now part of the 1%, especially when your veneer game is not up to par.  Do better! #TeamSheree

Sigh.

Calling All Shoppers: Versace for H&M Launches 11/19

Yet another reason I’m ticked that Birmingham does not have an H&M:  Versace’s capsule collection for the brand drops on November 19th in limited locations! The line was released last night in New York to fanfare featuring performances by Prince and Nicki Minaj.  If you learned any lessons from the Great Missoni for Target Fashion Catastrophe of 2011 earlier this year, readers,  then for the love of all that is fashionable be at H&M early and ready to make a mad dash for haute couture, albeit at slightly higher prices than you may be used to at H&M.  The collection’s pieces are priced from $29.95 to $399…and I’m going to need the hot pink studded sheath, STAT.  As well as the coral tights.  Please and thank you.

The Look for Less: Loafers

Christian Louboutin Dufferin loafer, $1295

If you’re looking to update your look from the ubiquitous ballerina flat, and aren’t too excited about the casual aesthetic of Tom’s slip-ons or laceless oxfords, then this season’s loafer might be just the thing.  Velvet, patent, studded and animal-print are haute for fall and at affordably chic prices.  Pair with this season’s bright cropped slacks, cigarette pants, and skinny jeans with a neutral top.  Or rock it in  reverse: a neutral camel or black pant with a pop of color on top.

The Look for Less: Jennifer Aniston in Vivienne Westwood

Jennifer Aniston rocked this haute tangerine peek-a-boo Vivienne Westwood dress at the launch of her eponymous fragrance earlier this year…and we decided to rock our own blouson version by BCBGeneration (bought on sale for under $100).  This dress is a definite head-turner and a refreshing change from the usual little black dress.  We’re pairing it with nude strappy pumps by Aldo, or perhaps our lucite Manolos (purchased on Ebay!) for a leg-lengthening look (because looking like a walking jack-o-lantern is not what’s haute in the streets).  We think even our leopard booties would work!

Haute or Not? Queen Latifah and Beyonce Launch Lines

Queen Latifah recently launched an apparel line via HSN…and the results are decidedly…meh…for someone who has access to the creme de la creme of fashion and admitted to New York Magazine that she has “expensive taste.” Prices range from $269.90 for the asymmetrical zip jacket , $89.90 for the knit poncho, and $299 for the studded patent-patch satchel.

Um…we’ll pass.

And in other label launch news, if the news that the House of Dereon is up for sale made you jump for joy, sit back down.  The tea is that Mama Tina’s Houston-area digs are on the market.  Ms. Knowles and the expectant Mrs. Knowles-Carter have revamped and relaunched (yes, again) their couture line and released it exclusively through Selfridge’s of London. The line features toned-down casual separates and you can view the pieces here.

And again, we’ll pass…unless Bey’s bedazzled suit becomes available.

You may not have the Flux Capacitor or the Hover Board, but bid on these 2011 Nike MAGs (proceeds go to Parkinson’s research via the Michael J. Fox Foundation) and you will be the envy of everyone at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance.

Seriously, these limited edition kicks are pretty awesome.  Bidding ends this Sunday; you can find out more here.

The Look for Less: Sweetheart Bracelet

Tiffany Locks 18K heart lock bracelet (lock and bracelet sold separately)

We heart the Tiffany Locks 18K heart lock bracelet, but the $2500 price tag? Not so much.  For $125 plus shipping, we’ll wear our heart on our sleeve with this vintage Victorian Gate golden sweetheart bracelet from vintagesparkles’ etsy.com shop instead.  Even sweeter is the vintage bracelet’s story: according to vintagesparkles, “when a gentleman went off to war or to travel afar, he would leave the bracelet locked around her wrist and he would hold the key until he got back. This symbol of love would show others gentlemen that the woman was theirs. Sort of like a wrist chastity belt.”  Let’s say it all together:  “Awwww!”

Fashion Files: Missoni for Target

Missoni, the Italian design house known for its distinctly patterned pieces, is the newest label to partner with Target for an affordable, mass-market line.  Slated to hit target.com and Target stores on September 13, the collection will feature clothing, accessories, housewares and more priced from $2.99-$599.99 (yes, you read that correctly).  If the unmistakeable zigzag is a bit much for you to wear, don’t despair: there is a lovely rose-print as well.  CAN. NOT. WAIT.
