MAC opens at Belk/The Summit!

Who’s been waiting on this besides me?!

The MAC counter is in a prime location near the front of the store, and has double counters.  Becky Blair, Belk Western Division Merchandise Coordinator noted, “We’re looking forward to the new MAC counter for this location.”

To celebrate, we’re giving away a MAC gift bag featuring lots of goodies: eye shadow in “Love Cycle” (a duo of baby and cobalt blue), nail lacquer in “Inert” (a so-now shade of grey), an eye shadow quad in “Parlor Smoke”, a chromagraphic pencil in “Rich Purple”, Zoom Waterfast Lash Mascara in “Waterfast Black”, Pro Longwear Lipglass in “Next Fad” (a pout-perfect pink), and a special edition Make it Perfect Brush Kit.

WANT TO WIN? Post “I want a MAC-over” in the comment section!  For an extra entry, post a link to the contest on Facebook OR Twitter (choose one method and be sure to tag Alexis or @SameChicSouth so the extra entry can be verified).  One winner will be chosen on Friday, November 16 at noon. Enter with a valid email address, as this is how the winner will be contacted. All decisions final.

*And in case you missed it, Nordstrom Rack is headed to Birmingham! It’s slated to open in the River Ridge Shopping Center next Spring!

Haute off the press: Cam Newton to Launch Collection at Belk

Carolina Panthers quarterback (and GQ cover model) Cam Newton is launching MADE Cam Newton, (a menswear line) with Belk.  The collection will debut in stores and on Belk.com next Spring.  According to Cam:

“As a man born and raised in the south, I have always known Belk as a benchmark for quality apparel and a destination for clothing that is both functional and stylish. Developing a collection for Belk was a natural fit from the beginning, and we designed the MADE collection with an authentic approach,” said Newton. “I’m happy to bring my vision to a clothing line that provides comfortable, on-trend clothing to men and that reflects my personal style.”

The collection will be comprised of “fashion-forward, versatile, professional apparel options for men, and in fall 2013, will also include accessories and shoes.” Celebrity fashion collections can sometimes go left (hello, House of Dead Wrong), but having seen a few of the casual and professional looks, I have to say the pieces are a sophisticated breath of fresh air (no signs of this or this).  I can’t wait to see how the line will be received here in Alabama (I’m sure the Auburn family will be “all in”).

Your thoughts?

Update: My source told me “tees will start at $28 and a blazer will be around $120, [offering] a wide variety of prices for any budget. [Belk and Mr. Newton] created this collection for people to be able to purchase what their wallet allows…we wanted to offer a variety of choices.”

Gotta Have It: Clinique Moisturizer

As hot and dry as this weather has been, our skin needs all the TLC it can get.  Of course, you should be drinking plenty of water and using sunscreen as part of your skincare routine, but as I swiped the last of my moisturizer this morning I wanted to share just how awesome it is.  I’ve been using Clinique’s Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator ($37 plus tax at Belk) for about six months.

Quite simply, this stuff is heaven in a jar.  The oil free cream-gel makes my dry skin feel velvety-soft all day long.  If you’re balking at the price, just know that a little dab goes a long way, and consider it an investment in your complexion.  It wears well under sunscreen and makeup and does not irritate sensitive skin.

Shoe Designer Sam Edelman Makes Giving Chic

I told you this was going to be good.

Sam Edelman – one half of famed design team Sam and Libby – will make a personal appearance at Belk at the Summit on Saturday, March 31 from 1-3 PM.  But not only is he going to showcase haute looks from his Spring 2012 shoe collection (which is fab all by itself), he’s also going to make a $5000 donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.  And as if the news could possibly be any more fabulous, Belk is matching his donation.

“As a male designer in the world of women’s footwear, I come in contact everyday with women whose lives are touched by breast cancer in one way or another,” said Sam Edelman. “I’m so blessed that women love shoes. I’m so blessed to work with women every day of my life and I’m so blessed to be able to give back.”

I peeked at the Spring collection, and it holds true to what the Sam Edelman brand is known for:  fashionable and modern silhouettes at great prices.  The collection features  – of course – chic ballet flats (featuring studs, snakeprint color blocking), satin espadrilles, loafers and  strappy flat sandals in bright and neutral tones, as well as gladiator sandals, wedges, peeptoes and slingbacks.

See you there!
