Best dressed: Regina Hall in Lorena Sarbu

20131115-081026.jpg

We are in absolute love with this candy apple red lace jumpsuit Regina Hall rocked at The Best Man Holiday premiere in Hollywood. There’s something so 1970’s-glam about a jumpsuit, and they’re so easy to wear! The peekaboo lace accent, proportions and color are just right in this pick form Lorena Sarbu’s Resort 2014 collection.

Be sure to check out The Best Man Holiday as it opens in theaters nationwide tonight. I saw it earlier this week at a Power 102.1 sneak preview, and without giving away any details I’ll just say I loved it! I think it’s what The Big Chill may have meant to a previous generation.

Dress like you mean it.

I love it when an outfit comes together! I decided to shop my closet for this year’s Magic City Classic festivities, and the Soiree presented the perfect opportunity to build a look around my vintage sequined pants, found at Etsy. Harem pants are having a moment this year, and when kept unfussy, are pretty fab! I paired mine with a simple cream peplum top from Forever 21, a gold snakeskin clutch from Target, rhinestone hoops from Private Gallery, bracelets from J. Crew and my favorite lucite and gold Manolo Blahniks.

Sleek, chic – and best of all – my legs stayed warm!

Magic City Classic do’s (and please don’ts)

Be sure to check out SCDD’s own Alexis Barton on AL.com talking (and modeling) fashion graciously provided by Belk for this weekend’s Magic City Classic face-off between Alabama A&M and Alabama State Universities! Click HERE to read the article! Alexis’ hair was styled by Kiera Grey-Nelson and James A. Adams at Renovare Salon in Vestavia Hills. And that awesome vampy lippie you see is the Guerlain goody I mentioned in THIS post.

Style Rule No. 1

20130912-055437.jpg

The first rule?
NEVER apologize for being stylish. In fact be unapologetically chic or fly. Natural hair or weave, sneakerhead or stiletto addict, denim dynamo or pencil skirt aficionado (or all or none of the above) – own your personal style aesthetic and never feel obligated to apologize for it.

Summer essential: Sam Edelman ‘Gigi’

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I know I’m supposed to be transitioning to fall footwear, but can we talk about the chic simplicity of a Sam Edelman sandal? Sigh.

I’m just purchased my third pair, the ‘Gigi’ in new nude leopard, and I have a feeling I probably should have bought two because these will probably get worn out. They have a comfortable padded footbed, come in a variety of neutral colors and fun patterns, and can be worn with dresses and denim. Coincidentally, Gigis have also been spotted on the Kardsashian sisters. They’re just a well-made, fashionable, reasonably-priced sandal ($65, unless you catch a sale). I bought mine at Zappos.cm, but the Sam Edelman line is also sold locally at Belk.

(And yes, my love for certain animal prints is almost as fierce as my love of bedazzling. This shoe is a perfect “baby step” toward incorporating it into your look without your ensemble screaming “Fierce Kitty” to onlookers.)

In other news, J. Crew Factory is open at The Shops of Grand River! They’re offering 20% off on purchases of $125 or more, and you can register to win a $200 gift card.

Happy Shopping!

Toss some sequins: H&M.com is here!

HMNowOpenSwedish retailer H&M answered a lot of fashionistas’ prayers on August 1 when they (finally!)  opened online shopping in the United States.  If you were part of the contingent that traveled to stores in Huntsville, Nashville, Atlanta and beyond (or gave a shopping list to friends in a city with an H&M), you now can shop H&M’s fast fashion offerings for ladies (including maternity and plus size), men, kids and the home from the comfort of your sofa (at least until they open a store in the Birmingham area).   Check out our wish list top ten looks below.

The deets: Draped top in black, $34.95; Embroidered organdie and chiffon blouse in black or white, $29.95; Embossed “leather” tote, $34.95; Graphic jersey top in white, $12.95; Jersey midi skirt in coral, $12.95; Loose-fit pants in dark blue, $24.95; Imitation leather pants in black, $34.95; Shoulder bag with stitch and tassel detail in black or cream, $24.95; Gold feather earrings with ear cuffs, $5.95; “Chic” Print tee in white, $14.95

And as a final plea: H&M, if you’re listening, we want a brick and mortar location in Birmingham!

Happy shopping!

‘Hats, Pearls and Gloves’ fundraiser to be held this Saturday

AGGBGC_HPG_Flyer_2013

Want to get a preview of this season’s fabulous fashion before you shop this weekend’s sales tax holiday, AND support a great cause?

Then please join the Women’s Auxiliary of the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club as they present their second annual ‘Hats, Pearls and Gloves’ luncheon and fashion show this Saturday, August 3rd!  The event will be held at the Wynfrey Hotel at the Riverchase Galleria from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM, and will feature members of the local community modeling “modern, Southern style” from Belk.

The Club serves nearly 1,000 children in the community each year.  Its efforts with area youth emphasize character development through five core program areas: Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, Sports, Fitness & Recreation and the Arts.  The skills and characteristics gained through these programs encourage academic success, personal responsibility and teamwork.

“We are so pleased to welcome the community to show its support for this special event benefiting our deserving young people,” said Frank E. Adams, Jr. President & Chief Professional Officer for the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club.  “Building on the success of last year, we’re certain that this year’s Hats, Pearls and Gloves will be a joyous and stylish celebration.”

This year’s program – sponsored by Belk and McDonalds Corporate – will be emceed by Gina Redmond and Gene Norman of CBS 42 and will include fashion commentary from yours truly!  As a special feature, Saturday’s event will include a “Fashion Tap” where guests are invited to wear their best hats, pearls and gloves; the person with the ‘most unique’ ensemble will be tapped and awarded a special prize.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit programs at the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club.  Individual tickets ($50) can be purchased by clicking HERE.

See you there!
