We’re obsessed with…

…this leopard foldover clutch by Clare Vivier. *Sigh*

We live for all things leopard…and this calf hair clutch is the perfect way to inject a little fierce kitty chic into your wardrobe. Animal print can be considered a “new neutral”, and you can carry this with virtually ANY color and still be on point.

If animal print is not your thing, Vivier’s clutches come in a ton of other finishes and are a luxe addition to your handbag collection.

Thinking Pink…

20131031-141756.jpg

Twenty years ago this past August, I lost one of my favorite people on the planet – my Aunt Helena – to breast cancer. I’ve been wearing an Estée Lauder Dream Pin this month in her memory. She loved makeup, and anything bedazzled (including denim).

To the end of her life, my aunt insisted on being in full hair and makeup before going out or receiving guests. Despite her illness, “dressing up” made it easier for her to “show up” and fight for her life.

She also loved the color pink, so I’ve been incorporating Origins’ Drink Up Hydrating lip balm in Pink Guava into my look this month. I love Origins’ products, but this one is especially dear to me because through December 31 Origins will donate $3.50 from every purchase of this shade to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which Evelyn H. Lauder helped found.

Darlings, please be sure to take charge of your health through self-exams and regular check-ups. Early detection is key to fighting this disease! For more information, please visit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s website.

#TBT

Do you have a theme song? You know, something you play before you get ready to help you feel extra confident?

Here’s mine:

A fur coat? A Mercedes? Big hair? That’s my kind of party.

Did you see #Scandal last night?

Be sure to like Gus Mayer’s page on Facebook; for every “like” they receive between today and midnight in October 12, they will donate $1 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama! Now if that’s not fabulous, we don’t know what is!

Susan Taylor As Model Ken Ramsay med 233x300 CURRENT EXHIBITION

If you live in Atlanta (or simply shop and socialize there), be sure to check out the “Posing Beauty in African-American Culture” exhibit currently on display at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art – noted as “the only museum in the United States emphasizing art by and about women of the African Diaspora.”

Via the Museum:

“Featuring more than 75 photographs by leading, emerging, and amateur photographers, Posing Beauty in African American Culture explores the ways in which our contemporary understanding of beauty has been informed by photographers and artists working from 1890 to the present. It incorporates a diverse range of media including photography, film, video, fashion, and other forms of popular culture and prompts rich discussions about the contested ways that African and African American beauty have been represented in historical and contemporary contexts.

Posing Beauty in African American Culture (September 5 – December 7, 2013) is curated by Deborah Willis and organized by Curatorial Assistance Traveling Exhibitions, Pasadena, California.”

The Museum of Fine Art is located in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center on 350 Spelman Lane, Box 1526,, Atlanta, GA 30314. Musuem hours are Tuesday through Friday from10 AM-4PM, and Saturdays from 12PM-4PM.

Best darn handheld hair dryer, period

20131008-114432.jpg

Unless you are Oprah or Beyonce, you probably have to shampoo your hair at home at some point. If so, RUN to Sally Beauty Supply and get the Conair Yellow Bird 1875 watt hair dryer. I bought one to use in between salon visits, and let me tell you: never be fooled into thinking you can skimp on haircare tools. This dryer was $40.99 plus tax, and I paid an additional $5 for an extended warranty.

I eagerly tried it out on my natural curls after completing a ponytail rollerset first, and was amazed at the results. I’m too vain to show you a before photo (don’t judge me), but trust me: this hair dryer was worth every penny. The cool setting is very pleasant, and the hot settings are warmer than my old hair dryer but did not fry my hair. What used to be a two day process of coaxing my strands straight has easily been shortened into about a 4 hour process (depending on how long it takes my roller set to dry). It also comes with two attachments (a comb and air nozzle), which both worked well.

Thank me later!

Summer essential: Sam Edelman ‘Gigi’

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I know I’m supposed to be transitioning to fall footwear, but can we talk about the chic simplicity of a Sam Edelman sandal? Sigh.

I’m just purchased my third pair, the ‘Gigi’ in new nude leopard, and I have a feeling I probably should have bought two because these will probably get worn out. They have a comfortable padded footbed, come in a variety of neutral colors and fun patterns, and can be worn with dresses and denim. Coincidentally, Gigis have also been spotted on the Kardsashian sisters. They’re just a well-made, fashionable, reasonably-priced sandal ($65, unless you catch a sale). I bought mine at Zappos.cm, but the Sam Edelman line is also sold locally at Belk.

(And yes, my love for certain animal prints is almost as fierce as my love of bedazzling. This shoe is a perfect “baby step” toward incorporating it into your look without your ensemble screaming “Fierce Kitty” to onlookers.)

In other news, J. Crew Factory is open at The Shops of Grand River! They’re offering 20% off on purchases of $125 or more, and you can register to win a $200 gift card.

Happy Shopping!

What we wore: Soirée at SoHo

20130717-065117.jpgI wanted to share two of the super chic looks worn at the recent Soiree at SoHo.  I had a lovely time, and the Role Model Runway was so fun (I managed not to trip or fall!).  It was a pleasure celebrating the work accomplished by the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama.

On Leslie Cooper: Calvin Klein crew neck roll sleeve blouse  in “Tempest Teal “and Michael Kors  printed skinny pant in turquoise and navy with Jessica Simpson  “Cosset” wedges in red.  What a chic and totally wearable way to mix patterns, prints and color!

On Alexis: Vince Camuto  twisted neckline maxi dress (similar, here).  I love the graphic chevron print as well as the slight pop of citrus yellow at the neckline. Perfect for cocktails or luncheons, it flatters a multitudes of silhouettes; it flatters the shoulders and neckline. We also added a matching yellow belt for an additional pop of color.  This airy chiffon dress was so comfortable that I just wanted to twirl all the way home in it!

Here’s a look at the fabulous fashions worn by all the Role Models this year ( the outfits were graciously provided by Belk).
