Support area charities by shopping AmazonSmile

Cyber-shopping today at Amazon.com? Give a gift that keeps on giving by using the AmazonSmile program. This program allows *eligible purchases to benefit the eligible 501(c)(3) public charitable organization of your choice (at no cost to you!) by donating 5% of your eligible purchase price (minus any gift-wrapping, shipping or service charges, rebates and taxes). And no, you can’t then deduct this from your taxes.

When you log in (by clicking HERE), choose an eligible organization and get to shopping; you can change your charity at any time. There are over a million organizations to choose from, and many from the Birmingham-area are listed. Support the spotlighted charity noted, or find the local organization of your choice by entering “Birmingham, AL” (or whatever other search criteria you prefer) in the “Or pick your own charitable organization” field and see just who could benefit from an AmazonSmile donation.

Happy shopping!

*”Eligible purchases” are marked “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on product detail pages.

Ask Alexis: Where can I find Olivia Pope’s white coat?

20131128-115814.jpg

Darlings, if you’ve been looking for fabulous white coats similar to those worn by Scandal’s Olivia Pope, IT’S HANDLED! While I can’t offer you any deals on the gorgeous Burberry Prorsum coat she wore earlier in the season (which sells for about $2600), you can check out these options at a retailer near you:

Military: Ecru Military Coat by White House Black Market, $248

Cape: Colorblock Wool Cape by Banana Republic, $225

Trench: Michael Kors “Cassandra” Belted Trench in white at Zappos.com, $134

Shawl collar: Jessica Simpson Double-Breasted Shawl Collar Coat in off white at Von Maur, $162

Wrap: Michael Kors Belted Wrap Coat in winter white at Victoria’s Secret, $158 (originally $198)

Double-breasted: Via Spiga Double-Breasted Wool Coat in winter white at Belk, now $159.99 (originally $280)

Convertible: RACHEL Rachel Roy Wool-Blend Boucle Convertible Coat in ivory at Macy’s, now $159.99 (originally $280; sale price ends 12/2/13)

Since Kerry Washington is expecting, I hope she’ll break out something especially amazing and over-the-top to cover her bump, like this voluminous, scultptural Armani Collezioni Wool Drop Shoulder Coat in antique, $2675 at Saks.

Happy shopping!

…this Grande Crystal Drops necklace, from J. Crew (now $139.99).

Had Mathilde Loisel – heroine of Guy de Maupassant’s classic short story The Necklace – known such affordable luxury existed, it might have literally changed her life (if you are unfamiliar with the short story, enjoy the recorded version below).

If you have champagne taste on a seltzer budget (or if you simply like well-made, unique accessories at great prices), J. Crew offers unique pieces which add fabulous touches to the simplest of ensembles without breaking the bank, and this exquisite statement necklace is very special.

Best dressed: Regina Hall in Lorena Sarbu

20131115-081026.jpg

We are in absolute love with this candy apple red lace jumpsuit Regina Hall rocked at The Best Man Holiday premiere in Hollywood. There’s something so 1970’s-glam about a jumpsuit, and they’re so easy to wear! The peekaboo lace accent, proportions and color are just right in this pick form Lorena Sarbu’s Resort 2014 collection.

Be sure to check out The Best Man Holiday as it opens in theaters nationwide tonight. I saw it earlier this week at a Power 102.1 sneak preview, and without giving away any details I’ll just say I loved it! I think it’s what The Big Chill may have meant to a previous generation.

#TBT: Chick stole my look!

Don’t you just hate it when this happens?

Beat the odds of running into your “twin” by shopping early and always putting a personal spin on ensembles. I NEVER buy an outfit exactly as it appears on a mannequin, and I expand my search for special pieces and accessories outside the “usual” stores. And on the rare occasion that it does happen, grin and bear it gracefully. Don’t walk around pouting; that certainly won’t improve your overall look!

On another note, who else misses Dynasty? The fabulous wardrobes! The shade! The catfights! They just don’t make night-time dramas like this anymore. *sigh*

…this leopard foldover clutch by Clare Vivier. *Sigh*

We live for all things leopard…and this calf hair clutch is the perfect way to inject a little fierce kitty chic into your wardrobe. Animal print can be considered a “new neutral”, and you can carry this with virtually ANY color and still be on point.

If animal print is not your thing, Vivier’s clutches come in a ton of other finishes and are a luxe addition to your handbag collection.
