Thank you, Kate Spade.

“I adore pretty things and witty words.”

-KateSpade

The last thing I treated myself to before I left for medical leave was a Kate Spade plastic serving tray and matching tumbler printed with lemons. I figured that if I had to be housebound for weeks, at least I could try to be cheerful about it. After all, when life gives you lemons…do something glamorous with them.

I’ve carried an ink-stained red and pink Kate Spade canvas agenda for YEARS—bought for far too much money at a Belk charity sale when I was desperately unhappy about my work and love lives. It reminds me daily to be optimistic, that things can always get better. And in the age of online calendars, it’s decidedly old school…but so am I.

I wore black satin Kate Spade sandals with bows to stroll down the aisle and kick up my heels at my brother’s wedding. The bridesmaid’s dress is history but I still have the shoes.

I’ve decorated my office with Kate Spade postcards, stationery, storage boxes and knickknacks for cheer and inspiration. The day I got my biggest consulting client and wrote my biggest story, I made notes in a large coral Kate Spade leatherette padfolio that has the phrase “She wrote the book on it” embossed on the cover in gold. It reminds me that my creativity and femininity are strengths and that my talent is unquestionable.

Thank you, Kate Brosnahan Spade. You were quick and curious and playful and strong. You left a little sparkle wherever you went. You encouraged me and so many others to escape the ordinary, in style.

Kate Spade’s lipstick pink, patent leather and felt polka dot pumps are like candy for the feet, no?  Light, sweet and so fun! LOVE the pointy toe, the ladylike bow and the single sole (refreshing after seasons of seeing of the platform on everyone and their mother). Even better, these are constructed out of mesh, which means they are breathable!

The “Lisa” pump is available at Zappo’s Couture for $328 (plus free shipping!).  I also spotted them at Belk at the Summit.  If the pink to is too “Barbie-ish” for you, these lovelies also come in a neutral black or ink blue.

The Look for Less: Kate Spade Bow Bracelet

I love the thought of wearing a bow and packaging myself as a gift, but with this Kate Spade two-tone bracelet’s $128 pricetag (now $79.99 via 6pm.com) I had a feeling I’d have to admire this one from afar! I found the perfect compromise with Forever 21’s glossy black bow cuff (and it was easy on my pocketbook at under $5!).  It’s so easy to find current trends at “fast fashion” stores like Forever 21, H&M, Wet Seal, or Charlotte Russe that mimic more expensive pieces.  While my bracelet is no longer available online (that’s the downside; you have to be quick about buying because these stores sell out), this one is quite similar.

A Girl’s Gotta Have it: The Go Cup

Blame it on my birthday this week: I’ve been thinking about all the accessories of my long-over childhood, like that Hello Kitty lunchbag and thermos I just had to have in fourth grade.

I know, I know…how chic can a “go cup” be? But if you’re from the Deep South, you understand its importance-nay, necessity-in adulthood: in the French Quarter you can carry (note: not operate a motorized vehicle with) your drink on the street if you have your beverage of choice in a non-glass container.  And for those of you who don’t indulge, did you know Starbucks gives you 10 cents off your drink order if you bring your own tumbler?

This super cute and festive Prize Ball thermos by Kate Spade ($35) has a party on the outside to match whatever party beverage you prefer to pour inside it!

Speaking of which, if you’re in the vicinity of a New Orleans Original Daiquiri shop or Fat Tuesday, make sure you try the Cajun Eggnog daiquiri! Please indulge responsibly.

LOVE That! Kate Spade Book Clutch
