The Belle

Dress: Asos // Handbag: Hanna Antiques // Gloves: Etsy (vintage) // Shoes: Steve Madden // Hat: Belk (old)

I am singlehandedly trying to bring back gloves as day wear (see what I did there?) because I think they are darling! My grandmothers loved them, and their individual senses of style had a major influence on me.

This is my take on their heyday: a 1950s  meets 2017 wiggle dress (made in a modern scuba fabric and finished with a lovely neckline), worn with a snappy shoe and contrasting hat, gloves and handbag (snagged at Hanna Antiques for under $10!). For a pop of color, my lipstick is MAC’s Ruby Woo to match the handbag’s scarlet lining.

Friday Fab: Winter White

Yes, I wear white after Labor Day (although technically this is “Warm Ivory”)! I love, love, love this shift from J. Crew. It’s heavy enough to keep me warm, the exposed zipper details are a fun accent and it’s super comfortable! It’s easy to dress this up as shown, or to wear a simpler necklace or statement earrings instead. As it warms up I’ll change my footwear and nix the tights.

This is the key to wearing lighter colors in winter: make sure they are in season-appropriate fabrics. Leave the linen and eyelet for warmer temps.

Double-zip shift dress (available HERE) and Grande Crystal Drops necklace (old), via J. Crew. Shoes via BCBG. Worn with the vintage coat previously featured HERE.

Hanna Antiques to hold fur sale

20141111-102115.jpg

I know, I know. Some of you feel wearing fur is passé. This post is not for you.

For those of you who enjoy the comfort of a mink or fox, and love the vintage charm of a gently-loved piece, strut on down to Hanna Antiques for their fur sale November 12-15! Hanna Antiques Mall is one of My favorite places to get lost on a Saturday afternoon, and owner Bonny Hanna Picard is lovely. On several occasions I’ve found absolute jewels, including a perfectly-kept wool coat with silk lining and mink collar from local department store legend Loveman’s and a pair of exquisite rhinestone clip-on earrings. The quality and prices are tough to beat, and Hanna Antiques also offers layaway (conditions apply).

If you are in search of a fur piece at an affordable price, don’t miss this opportunity! But be aware: Hanna Antiques doesn’t accept American Express!

Hanna Antiques is located at 2424 7th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233.

Happy shopping!
