Pleats, please!

Spring has definitely sprung (hello, allergies!), and I am thrilled to transition from coats and boots to sundresses and strappy sandals! One of the trends I’m trying is allover pleating. Pleats can be tricky depending on their size and placement, so I’m picky about wearing them.

BCBG has a gorgeous pink pleated maxi gown for $398, but I found a similar silhouette while browsing Etsy…for over $330 less! Everything old is new again, no? The shorter look is from Canadian retailer Winston Vintage and is so ladylike that I just sighed with happiness when I opened the box! I don’t even think it had been worn, and the pleating is in excellent shape. I love the bright shade of coral-pink and the attention to detail that you find in vintage pieces: the waist is pleated and the hem even has that fluttery accent! I say this all the time: they just don’t make dresses like this anymore (okay, maybe they do, but not at prices like this).

I plan to wear this with gold stilettos, a ponytail and a pink pout, perfect for weddings and soirees this spring and summer!

What a weekend!

Thanks so much to 95.7 JAMZ personality Nu York for the invite to the Centric Sip and Share, held this past Saturday! Centric TV brought Letoya Luckett, star of Single Ladies, and fashion designer Anthony L. Williams to Birmingham to – well, sip and share their takes on style and more!

For this event I wore J. Crew’s comfy Fringe Tank, black skinny jeans from Madewell, and my shoes are by Steve Madden. My fabulous makeup was created by Kim Colvin!

Check out the cute Bosco video on my Instagram page (@samechicdifferentday)!

‘Rear Window’ airs tonight

One of my all-time favorite movies is showing tonight! If you’ve never seen any of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic suspense films, Rear Window is one to watch.  The plotlines and (Edith Head-designed fashion) are not to be missed.

Rear Window stars James Stewart and Grace Kelly as a housebound photographer and his model girlfriend, respectively, out to solve a murder they believe occurred across the courtyard.  They get a little too close to the action, and to find out how it ends, go see the movie! Find it at a theater near you by clicking HERE.

I’m including a few shots of Kelly’s beautiful wardrobe. They simply do not make clothes like this anymore.

This Thursday…

20150316-233944.jpg

…find your perfect pants at J. Crew!

Whether you’re looking for skinny, slim, wide leg, straight leg or drapey options, they can hook you up. I’ve got my eye on the Reese Pant in neon persimmon.  I’m just not sure about the elastic waist, although I love the pair I received last year. The streamlined Martie Pant is more my speed…but they don’t come in neon persimmon!  I’m definitely not sold on the short culottes I see people wearing.  But that’s the point of this event and the Very Personal Stylists: to help you discover options you might avoid initially.

Plus, did you know J. Crew offers teachers and college students a 15% discount (in-store only) on regularly-priced merchandise with valid ID? Well, now you know…and knowing is half the battle!

Happy shopping!

Thanks, Deidra!

Do you have a fairy godsister? Deidra K. Perry is one of mine. She simply must be, because every time I need a little nudge, a friendly reminder or a boost, this dynamic mover and shaker swoops in and gives me word of encouragement. It’s almost gotten ridiculous, because how on earth could she know when I need it? I’m grateful.

Dear reader, I’m sharing this nugget with you because whether you wear an actual crown or not, I know I’m not the only one who needs this. Print it, put it on your fridge or bathroom mirror or make it your screensaver and don’t forget it!
